Just Before Upgrading to Windows 7

by admin on July 19, 2010

Windows 7 is the latest upgrade of Microsoft to their operating system line. Maybe you want to upgrade to it because it is said to be better than Vista (because comparatively, Windows 7 runs on lower resources than Vista). However, not because it is better means you are obliged to upgrade to it right away. First, ponder upon these points before you upgrade your operating system:

  1. Hardware – Your computer hardware matters. Not because you can run your computer on XP means you can run 7 that easily. Yes, you may install it, but have you considered the possible performance it may bring? Barely meeting the minimum requirements means a very slow Windows 7. Your hardware should be able to pull it off with a better performance with better computer components. Also, if you plan to change your computer in a year or two, it would be better to postpone upgrading your OS. It would be more practical to buy a new computer (with better specifications) with a pre-installed Windows 7 operating system. Not only should you check the components of your CPU, but also other third-party hardware (i.e. webcam, printer, scanner, etc.) because some hardware do not support Windows 7; thus, rendering your third-party hardware useless. Consider these things first.
  2. Software – Even if your hardware is enough to run a well-performing Windows 7, if your software lacks the compatibility to Windows 7, then it will be a hassle. Of course you have installed different programs in your computer (perhaps in XP or Vista), but the question is that will it work with Windows 7? Not all software has later versions that can run on Windows 7.

These two things are primarily the things you would have to consider before getting Windows 7. Be sure you check on these or else it could be a setback.
