The Key to Avoiding Data Loss

by admin on August 12, 2010

Data loss can be a very drastic experience for computer users. Sometimes, the data is just too vital to let go. Sometimes, the data is something you need at the moment. But since those data are gone, you have no option but to start all over again.

Preventing this is always possible. The key to avoiding data loss is creating backups. If you have a lot of data, especially essential data, back it up. Creating backups avoid the grave consequences you can get from data loss.

There is a lot of ways that you can backup your files:

Hardware Backup

This is the usual option for people in backing up data. Get a data storage device, be it an external drive, a USB, a reserve hard disk drive, a compact disk, a DVD, or whatever. All of this can help you in avoiding data loss. Connect the data storage device to your system. After doing so, select all the data you think you need. Emphasis on the word ‘need’ there. In backing up your data, it is important that you prioritize vital files over what you want to save. Once you have copied these files into your storage device, a USB for example, remove the device properly. Again, emphasis on the word ‘properly’. Learn that removing the device improperly may corrupt the data and even your device. Store your device away in a safe place. If ever you have new files to backup, access the device again and repeat the process.

Online Backup

This is a new trend in getting backup data. One ingenious way of doing online backup is by using emails. You can attach files to your email, right? You can do the same. Attach files and save as a draft. Come the event that you need the file, simply download it.
